KIT digital Connects Major Broadcasters to More Screens
Sep 07, 2012 (Marketwire via COMTEX) --As broadcasters around the world grapple with the challenges of changing viewer behaviour and new consumer technologies, KIT digital Inc. ( OSN, the leading Pay-TV network in the MENA region, worked with KIT digital to extend its OSN Play multiplatform OTT service to deliver content to the iPad in time for the 2012 London Games. Leveraging the Cosmos platform, KIT digital worked under a tight deadline to design and develop an all-new user interface supporting English and Arabic languages, as well as both live and on demand streams of the Games. The new application integrated Microsoft AuthenTec digital rights management technology (the first such implementation on an Apple device) in order to protect the broadcaster's valuable content. "The video on demand and multiplatform offering is a critical part of OSN's business going forward, because we know our subscribers want to access our great content anytime, anywhere," said Mark Billinge, Vice President Broadcast Operations and Technology at OSN. "We chose KIT digital as our partner because they have proven experience of delivering this type of technology and could integrate it into our existing platforms to minimise the additional investment." Cosmos and its VOD Store frontend are based on open standards and scalable technologies, allowing broadcasters to rapidly implement services as consumer preferences develop. This ability to respond quickly to evolving viewer behaviour is key for broadcasters to maintain their audience and ad revenue. Cosmos goes one step further by supporting subscription and transactional monetization models as well, opening up new potential revenue sources for customers who may still only be developing their own strategies for succeeding in today's market. "Forward-looking broadcasters like OSN realize the commercial opportunity of 'TV Everywhere' services. As innovators and solution providers, we take the guesswork and risk out of designing and deploying those high-value offerings," said KIT digital Chief Technology Officer Mark Christie. "By providing the technology and expertise to quickly deploy reliable solutions, our customers can stop worrying about their systems and instead focus on growing their audience."
